The Genius of Lust

The creation of Three-Part story ‘The Genesis of Lust,’ featured in my book, Dogmatic Acts was inspired by my ongoing tumultuous wrestle with faith and love, its relation secular regions of life and also the expression of faith in ancient religious text. While my undergraduate education did on digital media rather than religious studies, I conducted extensive  independent research into motifs within Hoodoo, Voodoo, Santeria and it’s connection to slavery and their recontextualization within Western faiths such as Catholicism, Pentecostal Christianity; also eastern religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam.

Through studying texts like the Book of Ka, The First Testament of the Holy Bible and also the King James Version and the Quran and apprenticeships under spiritual leaders. I was then able to conceive a nuanced appreciation and understanding of traditional symbolism and language. These traditional themes greatly influenced my artistic practices through written, sonic and visual means and engage with them respectfully and thoughtful manner.

The majority of my visual works often take on  surrealist expression utilizing ongoing motifs of wabi-sabi to craft new symbolism through elements like flame and earth. The materials with their inherent imperfections are alchemized into fragile or impervious objects, reflecting complex polarity of the sacred and the mundanity of the secular.

Through my music in the EP’s SS 1 and SS 2,  I used these inspiration to conjure soft aerial ambiance along harsh metallic drums. emphasizing creation and destruction of faith’s presence throughout the existence of humanity.

The Genesis of Lust

They demanded, “Face me.”

“Face me, and you will hold desire of the incomprehensible. Hold me, and your love would be sharper than the tip of an arrow. Strike me down.”

Swallow the blood I bare, let it be the water you drink for eternal life.

From your tongue, the seed of your lust will emerge.

Inwell

What you receive is void of anything at all;
Still you store them all in your heart.
May ecstasy play it’s part.

Breaking New Earth

...to see again as if I had never seen.

And then there you were, with eyes surrounding you and your arms outstretched.

Taking new form, breaking new earth.

Mother Mary

Machetes now rest at our altar, cradled in our arms is a monument of us.

This fruit will then become an orchard, and this orchard will then feed all who are starved.

My love, we see clearly now that there is so much more love for us.
